In our efforts to bring you quality dental care, our dentist and team use a periodontal endoscope to better diagnose dental issues. A periodontal endoscope, or “perioscope,” is a fiber-optic microscope used to examine pockets or tissue beneath the gumline.
This non-intrusive technology helps Dr. Keith F. Ogawa to identify and analyze tissue that would have otherwise been inaccessible without a surgical procedure. The fiber optics of this approximately .99 mm in diameter microscope have a magnification of 24 to 48 times, which allows for real-time diagnosis as images are illuminated and shown in high-resolution visuals on a colored monitor attached to the endoscope. These visuals let us examine tissue for disease and monitor healing and tissue growth before and after treatments with more proficiency.
A perioscope may be used during treatments such as:
- Cracked teeth treatments
- Root amputations
- Root canal therapy
- Periodontal procedures
The use of this advanced dental technology helps us provide better dental care for our patients and also helps ensure the health and beauty of your smile.
